IN LA SPEZIA - NEW COVERING OF THE FERROVIA CURVE

 

Lo stadio Alberto Picco dello Spezia Calcio, la cui costruzione risale al 1919, e in fase di ammodernamento dal 2021 con una serie di interventi mirati ad aumentarne la capienza, la fruibilita e il comfort. Dopo aver costruito la nuova tribuna, che include aree per l’hospitality e gli skybox, e stata realizzata la copertura della curva Ferrovia, cuore pulsante del tifo spezzino e storica struttura progettata dall’architetto Vittorio Gregotti. La nuova struttura in carpenteria metallica e costituita da un arco principale lungo 103 m che attraversa tutta la curva e che, per mezzo di capriate secondarie, sorregge oltre 2.600 m2 di copertura. L’arco principale segue la forma rialzata della gradinata e si appoggia ai suoi estremi su due strutture in carpenteria metallica, poste in corrispondenza dei due estremi della curva. Le difficolta geometriche, le interferenze con strutture esistenti, le lavorazioni ritagliate attorno al calendario di serie B e le problematiche di messa in opera sono solo alcune delle sfide affrontate nella realizzazione di questo progetto, che si e concluso nel febbraio 2025.

Spezia Calcio’s Alberto Picco Stadium, which dates back to 1919, has been undergoing a series of modernisation interventions since 2021 aimed at increasing its capacity, usability and comfort. Following the construction of the new grandstand, which incorporates hospitality areas and skyboxes, the Ferrovia curve — the historic structure designed by architect Vittorio Gregotti and the beating heart of La Spezia’s fans — has been covered. The new steel structure consists of a 103-metre-long main arch spanning the entire curve, supported by secondary trusses, which together cover more than 2,600 square metres. The main arch follows the elevated shape of the steps and rests on two steel structures at either end of the curve. Geometric difficulties, interference with existing structures, work around the B-schedule and commissioning issues are just some of the challenges that were overcome in the realisation of this project, which was completed in February 2025.
